On Friday, February 28, 2025, the book Regulators of Last Resort: Whistleblowers, the Limits of the Law and the Power of Partnerships (Cambridge University Press, 2025) was launched at the James Hardiman Library of the University of Galway. The event brought together a diverse audience of researchers, representatives from civil society organizations specializing in the fight against corruption and whistleblower protection, as well as whistleblowers from landmark cases that have had a positive impact on the community in Ireland.
Dr. Orla Lenihan moderated the debate, guiding a rich conversation about the challenges and opportunities surrounding whistleblower protection. During the event, Senator Tom Clonan and Professor Kate Kenny, the book’s author, shared valuable insights on the crucial role of whistleblowers, the limits of the law, and the importance of strategic alliances. This exchange highlighted the importance of collaboration between social, political, and academic actors to enhance whistleblower protection in Ireland.
The event marked an important milestone in the discussion about the role of whistleblowers and the need to strengthen legal systems through effective collaborations to drive positive change in the fight against corruption.
