The LGBTQ+ Staff Network, in partnership with the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Office, offers a range of training and development opportunities that support the University of Galway's commitment to creating a welcoming, respectful and inclusive environment for all. Through workshops, awareness sessions and learning programmes, staff can deepen their understanding of LGBTQ+ inclusion, equality and belonging, while contributing to a culture where everyone feels valued and empowered to be themselves at work.

Advocacy and Activism – a university as a space for advancing lgbtq+ rights? 

This course explores the role of the university as a space for advocacy and activism in advancing LGBTQ+ rights. It considers how higher education institutions can support social change, promote equality, and create inclusive environments for all. Participants will examine the history and impact of LGBTQ+ activism, the importance of advocacy within university settings, and the opportunities and challenges involved in driving change. The course also highlights practical ways staff and students can contribute to a more inclusive and equitable campus culture. By engaging with this course, participants will gain a deeper understanding of how universities can act as catalysts for positive social transformation and support LGBTQ+ inclusion both on campus and beyond.

LGBTQRI
Gender Identity, Expression & Diversity with ShoutOut This workshop aims to support institutions expand their capacity to support trans and non-binary students and staff. Participants will gain insight into experiences of trans and non-binary communities in Ireland today and build fluency in respectful language and terminology. In an open and safe space participants have the opportunity to ask any questions, explore strategies for becoming confident allies, and offer practical solutions for building more inclusive education for trans and non-binary individuals.
