Payments Processed by Timesheets
Payment Process
Before engaging any individual, managers must determine whether the person should be classified as an employee or self‑employed.
This ensures correct payment processes and compliance with Revenue requirements.
When the engagement is determined to be contract of service (Employee), the individual will be treated as a PAYE employee and processed via Payroll.

| Paid by Timesheet Submission | These categories of work are paid through the submission of approved timesheets: • Exam Correctors • Student Ambassadors (e.g., open days, orientation) • Guest Lecturer/Speaker • Subject Specialist • External Examiner • Quality Assurance Reviewers • Programme Reviewers |
| Teaching Support Staff (TSS) | HR will advise whether Teaching Support Staff (TSS) should be paid on monthly salary or by timesheet. This includes: • Part‑time Teaching • Tutorials • Lab Demonstrations • Academic‑related duties |
| TSS Monthly Salary Payments | Salary is averaged over the full contract period and paid monthly according to payroll payment dates. |
| TSS Timesheet Payments | Approved Timesheets must be submitted monthly to timesheets.bureau@nuigalway.ie in line with payroll deadlines. |
