What happens if I lose my phone with Authenticator App on it?

Should you lose access to your secondary authentication method (i.e. a lost or stolen phone) you will be unable to access your mail account. You will need to contact the Library and IT ServiceDesk in such instances to have your MFA  reset, please be aware ISS does not update the mobile number.

Can I transfer My MFA to a new Device?

Yes, you can transfer your MFA to a new device. Typically, this involves installing the Authenticator App on the new device and following the service's instructions to reconfigure MFA. This may include scanning a QR code or entering a setup key provided by the service.

What is MFA?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security by requiring two forms of verification: something you know (password) and something you have (mobile device).

Why is MFA important?

MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access by ensuring that even if one factor (like your password) is compromised, the attacker still needs the second factor to gain access

How does MFA work?

When you log in, MFA prompts you to enter your password and then verify your identity using a second method, such as a code sent to your mobile phone

What are the benefits of using MFA?

  • Enhanced Security: Protects your accounts from unauthorized access.
  • Fraud Prevention: Alerts you to verify logins, stopping unauthorized access.
  • Reliability: Ensures only intended users access your accounts and services

What should I do if I lose access to my second authentication method?

Contact your IT support or service desk to reset your MFA credentials

Can I use MFA on all devices?

Yes, MFA can be set up on various devices, including mobile phones, tablets, and computers

Is MFA mandatory for all services?

Some services may require MFA for enhanced security, while others might offer it as an optional feature

How often do I need to reauthenticate?

  • For students, reauthentication is needed every 15 days.
  • For staff, reauthentication is required every 15 days when connected to the wired network & every 5 days when off the wired network.
