How to Setup Automatic Screen Lock

The steps below show how to ensure that your computer is set up to automatically lock after a certain amount of time of inactivity. 

Windows 10 Computer 

  1. Open Settings: Click the Start button and select "Settings". 
  2. Go to Personalization: Click on "Personalization" and then "Lock screen". 
  3. Choose a Picture: Select a picture for your lock screen. 
  4. Below select "Screen Timeout Settings" 
  5. Select your timeout and hit apply  

Apple Mac Computer 

  1. Open System Preferences: Click the Apple menu and select "System Preferences". 
  2. Security & Privacy: Click "Security & Privacy" and go to the "General" tab. 
  3. Require Password: Check the box "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins". 
  4. Set Time: Choose the time interval for requiring the password. 

How to Lock a Computer Screen

Windows 

  1. Keyboard Shortcut: Press Windows key + L to lock the screen instantly. 
  2. Start Menu: Click the Start button, select your profile picture, and choose "Lock". 
  3. Ctrl+Alt+Delete: Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete and select "Lock". 

Apple 

  1. Apple Menu: Click the Apple menu and select "Lock Screen". 
  2. Keyboard Shortcut: Press Control + Command + Q to lock the screen instantly.
