Overview

This micro-credential will provide nurses and allied health care professionals with an advanced understanding of dementia. The overall aim of the micro-credential is to enable the learner to provide person-centred care to people with dementia and their carers enhancing their quality of life. It is delivered by a blended learning approach and has two on-campus workshops days. The micro-credential is relevant to those working in the community, acute and long-term care settings.

This micro-credential is multidisciplinary and welcomes applications from healthcare professionals from the wider multidisciplinary team (including medical doctors, MHN’s, RGN’S, practice nurses, public health nurses, RNID’s, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists) in acute, care of the older person, rehabilitation, continued care and community services.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be over 21 years of age. Applicants must be a Registered nurse or allied health professional (OT, Speech and Launguage, Social worker, Social care).

Unit 3: Caring for People during the Dementia Journey
Unit 4: Managing responsive behaviours in dementia

Course Outcomes
On successful completion of this micro-credential, you will receive credits as per the European Credit and Transfer System. These credits are recognised by the awarding institution as credits aligned to learning completed at postgraduate level 9.
