The taught portion of the MSc in Consumer Psychology program concluded this week with a colourful celebration of cultural diversity that perfectly embodied Galway's historic identity as the "City of the Tribes." Programme Director Dr. Denis O'Hora delivered the final lecture to this year's graduating class, after which students and faculty gathered for a unique commemorative event. Participants wore traditional attire representing their diverse cultural backgrounds, creating a visual tapestry of global heritage. "What began as a diverse group of strangers has transformed into a close-knit academic family," Dr. O'Hora remarked. "This cohort represents countries from across the globe, and they've brought invaluable perspectives to our program."

The celebration paid homage to Galway's historical legacy as a city shaped by fourteen merchant families, or "tribes," who settled here centuries ago. Today, that tradition of welcoming diversity continues through educational programs like the MSc in Consumer Psychology and the other MSc programmes in the School. The Consumer Psychology students will now embark on internships across various industries, taking with them not only academic knowledge but cross-cultural understanding developed throughout their studies.

"The knowledge and insights gained extend far beyond consumer behavior and psychology," said Dr. O'Hora, "My students have taught me at least as much as I have taught them." The School of Psychology and the University of Galway's College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies continues to foster an environment where global perspectives enrich the educational experience for all participants. The MSc Consumer Psychology Class of 2025 will return for graduation ceremonies later this year.
