Galway Simon Community Sleepout 2025
On November 21st, a group of Third Year Psychology students joined others dedicated to ending homelessness to participate in the Galway Simon Community’s annual sleepout. As part of their ‘Community Psychology and Social Justice module’ led by Dr. Mike Hogan and Dr. Chris Noone, students have been working with the Simon Community and COPE Galway and gained insights into the work of both organisations. As part of the module students had the opportunity to meet with Fintan Maher, Head of fundraising and Communications at the Galway Simon Community and Ciara McGrath, community fundraising executive with COPE Galway.
Students were motivated by the organisation's work to participate in raising awareness for a growing, important issue. Students raised a total of 3657 euro!
As noted by Roisin Mahon, “The night of the sleepout involved lots of chats, singing, card games and countless cups of tea. We shared pizza kindly donated by LilBro’s Pizza and tucked into our sleeping bags. Wearing as many layers as possible, we sheltered from the rain in the quad and had the worst night's sleep of our lives. Although we woke up tired and cold, our efforts paid off knowing we raised over 3,000 for such worthy causes.”
Well done to everyone involved!
