Sep 09 2025 Posted: 17:08 IST

Join us on Friday, 19 September for a free, bilingual walking tour exploring Galway’s legal and cultural heritage, led by School of Law academics Dr Ursula Connolly and Dr Charles O’Mahony.

The School of Law invites you to a special Culture Night event: Courts, Culture, and the City: A Legal Walk Through Galway, a guided tour that brings stories of justice, power, punishment, and law reform to life across the city. The tour will be delivered in English by Dr Charles O’Mahony and in Irish by Dr Ursula Connolly.

Starting at the University’s historic Quadrangle, the route weaves through key civic landmarks, Galway Cathedral (formerly the county jail), the Courthouse, Eyre Square, Forster Street (Magdalene Laundry site), Lynch’s Castle, and the Spanish Arch, inviting you to reflect on wrongful convictions, carceral institutions, gender and justice, and the evolution of human rights in Ireland.
